If I Were Harry Martinson – considering the poem Kabelskepp

A limited edition artist’s book
Edition: 10, with 3 artist’s proofs
Release Date: 2017
Price: $750 + S&H

This illustrated book explores the poem Kabelskepp by Swedish poet Harry Martinson (1904–1978), who left home at the age of seventeen to sail around the world on a telegraph cable repair ship. The poem describes a moment where a torn cable is hauled up onto the deck of the boat one night and a far away conversation could be heard through the wires about the fate of the world and the sailors’ lives. This poignant existential scene inspired Wayne to imagine what it must have been like for Martinson and led her to explore more deeply the details of the ship he must have sailed on. The images are a lyrical response to each stanza of the poem. Each book measures 9¼ x 7½ inches and contains 28 pages, with eight archival digital prints by the artist. The paper is Moab Entrada Rag Bright 300 gsm, the typeface is Avenir and the letterpress was done at The Grenfell Press. The non-adhesive binding was sewn by Sarah Nicholls and the vinyl cover with leather tie was designed and sewn by the artist.

20 Ways to Start the Day

Edition: 10
Release date: 2015
Price: $2500.00 + S&H

In Hindu culture, the Lingam is a symbol of fecundity and a meditative vehicle. With a Western, secular eye to formalism however, its simple geometric shape is both a mirror and a void, a reflection of the world and a window into the unknown. It is the perfect creative vehicle to explore the infinite possibilities of a single shape, and has become the genesis of several ongoing projects, of which this is one.

20 Ways to Start the Day is a multiple created in a limited edition of ten. Each edition consists of a 19” x 15” x 2” silk covered box lined with charcoal foam and 100% white cotton felt. In it are three objects: a 10” x 8” x 1” linen portfolio containing 20 archival digital ink-jet prints from scans of original gouache and acrylic paintings on paper by the artist based on the Tantric Lingam; a 4” x 4” archival digital ink-jet print in an acrylic frame of an anonymous circa 17th Century Rajasthani serpent painting; and a Lingam shaped stone, hand cut in marble by sculptor Don Porcaro.

Price: Each edition is $2500.00. A deluxe version containing the 20 original works on paper from which the prints were scanned is available for $10,000.00.
